The standard I chose is ELA.3.C.5.2 which is using writing tools to plan or revise both with others and individually. I do feel like I'd be able to implement this skill in a classroom setting with my knowledge right now. I would have students use MS Word to write their final drafts or even practice doing timed essays on the computer. I feel prepared to do this because I've spent so much of my own education doing the exact same thing and it's helped me to thrive.
I think the resources I found on the CPALMS website can be used to help construct lesson plans especially if you're a first-time teacher. Under the ELA section for 4th grade, there are a lot of fun activities specifically for nonfiction writing to help keep the kids engaged. I noticed one about exploring the life of Walt Disney and how Disney has impacted Florida. I think it's harder to get kids' attention when trying to get them to write an argumentive or informative paper, so I think talking about something like Disney and having them write on that would help gauge their interest.
It's important to be a proficient internet searcher as a teacher because in order to be able to effectively teach kids you first need to be very well educated on the subject yourself and want to be prepared for any questions students may have. This requires research and googling skills. I think the skill I'll use most from this week is the one about shortening the question you're searching. It's more proficient to Google "writing tools" instead of "helpful writing tools for students in elementary."
I think AI could be used in a creative way as a source of inspiration. For example, it could be used to generate writing prompts or create images from sentences written by students, so they can see their imagination come to life. However, I think using AI to "better" your work takes away from the realness and authenticity of what you've written. I think it's important to create a clear distinction of how it can be used as a tool and how it can be harmful.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteYour post was very insightful and interesting to read. I did my research on CPALMS relating to math, so it is important to know about other fields that are different than math and how we can relate. I agree that CPALMS can be helpful for first time teachers. It lets us stay on track and gives us a structure of where our kids should be at. It even gives us resources to take them there! I also agree with what you have written about the use of the internet and AI. We can use it for good to find inspiration, and think outside the box. I plan on using those tools to create fresh ideas that are maybe not conventional, but prepare students for this new world of technology. Great job!
