In EME 2040 I hope to learn how to use online tools, such as this one, that will aid me in pursuing a career in writing. I think it's important for advertisement purposes to be able to utilize the technological tools around me. Though I do know how to use a lot of technological and social platforms, there's still a lot I could learn! My goal is to be a writer and published author, so I hope this class will help me discover or get better at using tools that could possibly aid me in this field.
In an educational sense, I've had to use technology all throughout my schooling career. In elementary school, I remember my teachers utilizing platforms like Ticket to Read, Edmodo, and Sumdog to engage with the students as well as make learning more fun. Now with a minor in education, I've had projects in some of my classes where I've had to create lesson plans, and have been able to utilize online tools in a creative way to promote engagement in the classroom from students who were once like me. Some of the tools I use most often consist of Canva, Google Slides, and Google Docs.
My current PLN consists of poetry and music. I like to learn from other writers and see what they do that helps generate traction for their art. The best way to become better as a writer is to read and learn from the works read. I mainly use TikTok, Instagram, and Pinterest to like, comment, and save the work of other poets, writers, and songwriters. In the offline sense, I have workshop classes with others who have similar ambitions that help me to perfect my craft by communicating with one another and each other's works.
It’s great that you’re using EME 2040 as a way to explore online tools that can support your writing career. I'm a creative writing major and your blog helped me realize that I can utilize some of these tools to assist in my career in writing as well. Your experience with educational technology, from elementary school to creating lesson plans, shows how digital platforms enhance learning and engagement. I also love how you’ve built a personal learning network through poetry, music, and social media, using both online and offline spaces to grow as a writer. Engaging with other creatives through workshops and platforms like TikTok and Instagram is a smart way to build on your craft and create a community!
