Blog Post #4

 I've wanted to get more into blogging for writing purposes. I've learned that it can be as simple as posting a paragraph of my thoughts a week and that it doesn't have to be this super complicated essay. I like that it can be interactive, and others can share their thoughts on whatever I'm writing. Eventually, I want to start my own blog to build that sort of community and conversation around my work.   A web 2.0 tool I want to use when teaching is a website called Sumdog.  I used this website in elementary school during computer lab for math games. Unlike cool math which was basically just playing online games, Sumdog required you to answer math problems in whatever game it was you chose to play. They had dress-up games, stacking games, racing games, and so many other things that made kids excited. The standard I chose is ELA.3.C.5.2 which is using writing tools to plan or revise both with others and individually. I do feel like I'd be able to implement this skill in a classroom setting with my knowledge right now. I would have students use MS Word to write their final drafts or even practice doing timed essays on the computer. I feel prepared to do this because I've spent so much of my own education doing the exact same thing and it's helped me to thrive.  I think the resources I found on the CPALMS website can be used to help construct lesson plans especially if you're a first-time teacher. Under the ELA section for 4th grade, there are a lot of fun activities specifically for nonfiction writing to help keep the kids engaged. I noticed one about exploring the life of Walt Disney and how Disney has impacted Florida. I think it's harder to get kids' attention when trying to get them to write an argumentive or informative paper, so I think talking about som...
