Teacher Development

https://bit.ly/3R9itdz This video describes all things related to growing as a teacher, including training. It makes the point that sometimes less is more. Reminds teachers not to have an ego. The teacher learns just as much from the students as the students learn from them.

I've wanted to get more into blogging for writing purposes. I've learned that it can be as simple as posting a paragraph of my thoughts a week and that it doesn't have to be this super complicated essay. I like that it can be interactive, and others can share their thoughts on whatever I'm writing. Eventually, I want to start my own blog to build that sort of community and conversation around my work.   A web 2.0 tool I want to use when teaching is a website called Sumdog.  I used this website in elementary school during computer lab for math games. Unlike cool math which was basically just playing online games, Sumdog required you to answer math problems in whatever game it was you chose to play. They had dress-up games, stacking games, racing games, and so many other things that made kids excited. In order to win though, you had to be able to answer addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems in a certain amount of time. It also allowed you to pla...

The standard I chose is ELA.3.C.5.2 which is using writing tools to plan or revise both with others and individually. I do feel like I'd be able to implement this skill in a classroom setting with my knowledge right now. I would have students use MS Word to write their final drafts or even practice doing timed essays on the computer. I feel prepared to do this because I've spent so much of my own education doing the exact same thing and it's helped me to thrive.  I think the resources I found on the CPALMS website can be used to help construct lesson plans especially if you're a first-time teacher. Under the ELA section for 4th grade, there are a lot of fun activities specifically for nonfiction writing to help keep the kids engaged. I noticed one about exploring the life of Walt Disney and how Disney has impacted Florida. I think it's harder to get kids' attention when trying to get them to write an argumentive or informative paper, so I think talking about som...

I used to use MS Word all the time in middle and high school for all my essays or even recreational short stories. When it came time for college applications senior year, I wrote my entire college essay on Word, but then out of nowhere, my computer shut down. Throughout my years of using Word I was used to my progress just saving, but when I turned my computer back on my entire essay had been deleted. From that moment on, I've only used Google Docs and have never had to worry about things being lost if I was offline or anything like that; it always automatically saves everything. I know you can do the same thing with Word if you set it up, but I personally think Google Docs is easier to use, share, and collaborate with.  I think the ISTE Standard that stands out to me the most is the 2.1 Learner Standard. It's always important to keep up to date with current technologies since things are constantly changing and being upgraded. I definitely participate in PLNs that relate to m...
